An excellent result obtained by Francesco Traversi in the final phase of the competition with his symphonic piece. The Titans is a symphonic fantasy in which the reference to Greek mythology simply represents the pretext of highlighting the modern necessity of taking a rebellion against all the superior forces (fate, nature, deity, money, despotic power, etc.) that dominate man and oppress his vital impulses and freedom.
In 1985, the first Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition went to Witold Lutoslawski, a Polish composer, for his Symphony No. 3. Since then the Grawemeyer Award has achieved international recognition as the premier music composition award.
